Why Standard Insulation Testers Cannot Test PV Systems
Conventional insulation testers apply test voltage between the conductor and earth. PV systems are ungrounded — there is no fixed earth reference. Using a standard tester can damage the system and give false readings. The IR5051 uses a floating measurement circuit that tests safely without an earth connection.
